  An Idea as Rich as Rockefeller

According to federal statistics, keeping a man behind bars in New York cost taxpayers $36,835 a year in 2006, meaning we're spending more than half a million dollars to lock up a single offender sentenced under Rockefeller. We can't afford to keep doing that in these tough fiscal times. New York should join a handful of forward-looking states attempting justice reinvestment - spending prison money in ways that cut down on crime and those expensive cells.

Keynote speaker: Richard Heller worked with Dane Von Breichenruchardt of the Bill of Rights Foundation to bring suit against Washington D.C., and together they successfully overturned the D.C. ban on handguns.
